Excerpt from book:
Creeping until just past the Cadillac, an ivory colored Buick or what appeared to be a Buick, pulled to the shoulder of the road. Leaning slightly to his right, Ross could see the woman had turned about in her seat to stare in his direction. She turned her head to say something to the driver.
Drive on, dammit!
That wasn't going to happen. Although he couldn't see the far side of the vehicle, he heard the door open and close. The driver had gotten out of the car. Apparently, the old timers, not having seen his lower body until passing beyond the front of the CTS, now realize someone lay on the ground.
The well intending oldster, sixty or so, short, balding and wearing shorts with an open tailed sports shirt, paused in front of the Caddy. He stared down at Morgan with the most perplexed look. He was about to say something or so it seemed.
"Get the hell out of here," Ross yelled, turning on his left side to assertively wave the oldster away with his right hand. "Get away from here! There's a shooter across the road! Leave! Get back in your car and call the police!"
The old man wasn't expecting this reaction from someone he was stopping to help. It simply wasn't registering. Instead of doing as instructed, his shoulders and head jolt forward. "What?"
"There's a shooter across….
The old man's head appeared to explode! The exit wound being toward Ross gave greater emphasis to that perception. His arms went straight out from his body as a red spray emanated into the air. The victim never knew what hit him. Tottering for a second, he fell to lie near the front of the Cadillac.
