Book review

Anyone who serves as community leader undertakes the responsibilities of that position for life. Not only the leadership duty, but the accumulated experience needs to be passed on to the next generations as well. The community leader should assume this as part of his mission.
After I left my post as chairman on June 18, 2004, I thought that the best I could do would be to write my memoirs to pass on to my children, my grandchildren, and also to my community and to the young people of my country. The Jewish community has, to this day, always been led by people who were well-educated, of solid character and could serve as role models to the next generations. But I did not have a chance to listen or read their memoirs. As someone who has spent half a century in the community and had the honor to serve as chairman for fifteen years, I wanted to combine my personal memories with my experience of the ground Turkey has covered during this period, hoping to be helpful to future generations.
